Lighting of the Lake & Living Nativity

Sunday, December 3
As a shining symbol of Christmas, vigil lights will encircle Mirror Lake. You may dedicate one or more luminaries to a loved one, in memory of someone special, to recognize a special occasion, or just to wish a student good luck with final exams.

USF students perform Las Posadas at 5:30 p.m. as they portray Mary and Joseph on a journey through the USF campus, re-creating their search for lodging. A traditional part of Hispanic Christmas celebrations, posadas (which means “inn” or “shelter”) are held on each of the nine nights leading up to Christmas, from December 16 to 24.

As an Advent tradition, members of the university community present a Living Nativity that witnesses to the power and presence of God’s love incarnate throughout history. Hear St. Francis tell the story of Christ’s birth much as he did in 1223 in Greccio, Italy. For more information, visit sf.edu/christmas.
